Screen modes

In EMu, a Screen mode is simply the module's current mode of operation. It changes when you perform one of these operations:

  • Search for records
  • View their details
  • Add new records
  • Edit existing records

The four Screen Modes are:

When you first open a module, it is in Search mode. In this mode you run a search of your records.

As soon as you've run the search the Screen Mode automatically changes to Display mode.

You can return to Search mode from any other Screen Mode by either:

  • Clicking New Search New Search or Previous Search Previous Search in the Tool bar

    -OR-

  • Selecting File>New Search or File>Previous Search from the Menu bar.

In this mode you look at the results of a search. Results can be viewed:

In Display mode you can edit records by modifying the fields of the record. When you begin to edit a record the Screen mode automatically changes to Edit mode.

In this mode you make changes to a record. You enter Edit mode automatically when you begin typing in a field in Display mode.

In this mode you add a new record. You enter New mode by either:

  • Clicking New Record in the Tool bar

    -OR-

  • Selecting File>New Record (CTRL+N) from the Menu bar.

The Screen mode is always indicated in the Status bar (located along the bottom of a module window):

Screen modes

Tip: It is possible to configure EMu so that the colour of text in the record fields is different for each of the Screen modes. This can be a useful way to highlight which mode you are currently in. For example, the text might be red in Search mode, black in Display mode, and blue in Edit and New modes. See Colours options for details.
